Retractable Awning

It rains a lot here in the Northwest, so adding an awning to the side of my house will let me enjoy the fire pit more often in the rainy months. My homeowners association doesn’t allow fabric awnings unless they are retractable, and I wanted the freedom to lay under the blue sky every once in awhile. So I bought some water proof and mildew resistant fabric, got out my wife’s sewing machine, and sewed an awning. I built a frame, attached one side to the house, bolted in some eyelet bolts, and attached some wire cables, and tightened them with turnbuckles. My dad soldered some t’s onto copper pipes that fit into the awning for cross supports. The wire cables pass freely through the t’s, so the awning can move up and down. Maybe some day I’ll add some motors to move it, but not today.
